Age UK Devon & Stones Solicitors LLP form Partnership

Charity Age UK Devon and Stones Solicitors LLP, one the region’s leading law firms,  have formed a partnership to help older people, those approaching retirement and those with responsibility for an older person, to better understand the issues they face.

Ours in an ageing population: in 1985 there were 690,000 people aged 85 and over. Today, this figure is 1.4 million and is projected to grow to 3.6 million by 2035. As a consequence, families face potential crises of care – more generations will exist at the same time within families than ever before leaving the question, “who will care for who?”

By working together, Age UK Devon and Stones Solicitors LLP will provide education, advice and support within the county by encouraging people to plan for old age earlier. The partnership will also provide advice about the agencies and organisations that can help, and explain the legal framework and options within which it is best to operate.

Businesses will also be catered for, with advice and support surrounding issues such as accommodating employees who have to take time out of work to care for an elderly relative, and helping employees to plan for their retirement.

Age UK Devon and Stones Solicitors LLP will be working together on joint activities, including seminars and workshops, presentations and legal advice; and media opportunities.

Ann Ovens, Chief Executive at Age UK Devon, said: “Our partnership with Stones will be of immense benefit to the people who access our services. There will be very few of us indeed who will escape the issues around getting old. As a result, we must all become ‘experts’ at dealing with age related issues, which is why it is reassuring to us and the people who use our services to have such a respected and experienced law firm as Stones on board.”

Adrian Richards, Chief Operating Officer at Stones, added: “We are becoming more and more aware of how an ageing population is affecting the way we all live – not just personally, but professionally too. We think that it is vital for people to fully understand the legal options open to them and are delighted to be working with Age UK Devon towards this objective.”
