Stones Staff to Shave Beards for Charity

Three members of staff at an Exeter solicitors will be having their beards shaved off in public on the 11th December to raise money to buy Christmas presents for children with special needs and disabilities who attend a donkey riding centre.

In order to raise £300 towards Christmas presents, Stones Solicitors will be participating in a number of fundraising activities, including a dress down day and a cake bake, but the spotlight will be on the three brave men who have selflessly volunteered to shave their beards off in aid of the charity, The Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST).

EST spokesperson Chris Phillips says "The beards have a combined age of over 38 years and the three courageous shavees, Alex Blest, Tom Sampford and Leigh Barry, employees of Stone Solicitors, Exeter, will publicly have their beards removed at their office.

"The EST staff will be holding Christmas parties for children throughout December and are extremely grateful for the generosity and effort that Stones Solicitors are making."

With a target of £300 needed to help buy Christmas presents for all the children who attend the EST centre, a reserve has been put on each beard of £50. The Stones Family & Children team will also be hosting a Christmas party at the Sidmouth-based Riding Centre and offering the services of their very own Santa!

David Howell-Richardson, Partner and head of Stones Family Team added "As a local law firm that has a specialist Family and Children Team we are delighted to be involved with a local charity that provides an important resource for children with special needs".

Stones Trainee Solicitor, Nikkie Janus-Harris who has been involved with the charity for a number of years, says "Riding therapy helps the children to improve balance, confidence and coordination. They also benefit from the enormous pleasure that they gain from being close to the donkeys. The children who visit the centre have a wide range of needs including physical disabilities, sensory impairment, speech and communication difficulties including autism".

Over 150 children with special needs and disabilities from 30 local schools in the surrounding areas benefit from donkey-riding therapy at the Sidmouth centre each week.
