Nick is a Partner and Head of the Social Housing Team.

He has been acting for Social Housing Organisations large and small for over twenty five years and his experience in the field is recognised by annual recommendations in the leading independent guides to the Legal Profession, Chambers and the Legal 500. Nick is the Contact Partner and believes in making himself readily accessible to all Registered Social Landlord clients (RSLs). He is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery by his Team of an efficient, high quality and cost-effective service.

He also deals with development acquisitions and related issues including advice on structuring complex projects, compliance with Housing Corporation requirements, VAT and Stamp Duty problems, shared ownership issues, RSL planning matters (including the affordable housing issues which frequently arise in connection with S106 Planning Agreements), Development/Build Agreements, Management Agreements, Capital Grant Agreements and care homes/supported housing, and numerous other matters for Social Housing Organisations.

Nick has recently advised in relation to:

  • The acquisition “off plan” by way of a complex conditional development agreement and Lease of 54 affordable units in a large mixed use scheme of 14 and 21-storey tower blocks in a high profile city centre location
  • The negotiation of numerous Section 106 Planning Agreements (including in relation to exception sites such as those within the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks which pose particular difficulties) and advice on affordable housing restrictions generally
  • The acquisition by way of a “golden brick” land contract and JCT agreement of 77 affordable units on a development site on the Isle of Wight
