Calling All Businesses – the Exeter Night Walk Needs You!

09 April 2011

Exeter Night Walk, the annual women-only event that raises money for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF) and Macmillan Cancer Support, will take place on 9th April – and this year the organisers are hoping that as many businesses as possible will put up corporate teams with the added incentive of the Exeter Night Walk Corporate Cup to be won.

The event already has the support of a number of businesses. It is sponsored by Stones Solicitors and Toucan Design and, for the first time this year, Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital is backing the walk by providing water for the entrants.

Exeter Night Walk is 10 miles in total. Starting at Exeter Arena participants register and begin their walk towards the city centre. Crossing the Millennium Bridge, walking down the Quay and taking a break at Wyvern Barracks, they will finish back at the Arena where they can celebrate their fantastic achievement.

Organisers are keen to encourage as many corporate teams to enter as possible, which is why they have introduced the Exeter Night Walk Corporate Cup for the first time this year. Sarah Shaw, fundraising manager at ELF, commented: “We’re hoping that around 1200 ladies will take part in this year’s walk, and we would be delighted if that number was made up from a number of corporate teams. As well as being great fun to do, and raising money for two great causes, the walk is also a superb team building exercise. It’s also a good way for businesses to put corporate social responsibility into practice.”

Karen Turner, events development manager from Macmillan Cancer Support, added: “It is not just teams of ladies from businesses that we need on the night – we will also require a number of marshals and stewards to help us run the event and, here, we are more than happy for the chaps to get involved! Any volunteers would be welcome.”

Adrian Richardson, chief operating officer at Stones, said: “As well as sponsoring this event we also put up our own team. We know that members of staff enjoy getting involved and we certainly notice a real buzz in the office in the weeks leading up to the walk. We would encourage as many businesses as possible to enter teams, especially as this year there is now a Corporate Cup to win!”

Josh Beadon, creative director at Toucan Design, added: “This is a great opportunity for any business looking to put something back into the community in which they operate. We’re hoping that the Corporate Cup will bring an exciting yet well-ordered element of competition to the event.”
