700 raised for Special Needs Children
On the 11th December 2009 3 members of Staff at Exeter based Stones Solicitors had their beards shaved off to raise money to buy Christmas presents for children with special needs and disabilities who attend a donkey riding centre in Devon.
As well as beard shaving the firm, based in Southernhay Gardens, had a dress down day and a cake bake, to raise £300 for the children using the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust for Children and Donkeys (EST), but the main focus of the fundraising was on the three bearded men who are now feeling a little lighter and colder as winter arrives.
David Howell-Richardson, Head of Stones Family Team who organised the events, "we are so pleased to be involved with a local charity that provides such a useful resource to local children with special needs, and as a local business that deals with family and children law we wanted to support a local charity this Christmas that helps children. We set our target at £300 and I am delighted to announce that the final target is in the region of £700!"
The Three brave men, Leigh Barry, Tom Sampford and Alex Blest had beards with a combined age of over 38 years, were reduced to cleanly shaven men by Sara Paleschi from Headquarters in Magdelen Road Exeter, who kindly gave up her time for free. The shave which took place at 1pm on the 11th December was witnessed by a number of spectators from the firm and for Leigh Barry it was a major change as his wife had never seen him without a beard.
The Family Team from Stones Solicitors will also be hosting a Christmas Party at the Sidmouth based Riding centre on the 19th December, and will be bringing their very own Santa.
Over 150 children with special needs and disabilities from 30 local schools in the surrounding areas benefit from donkey-riding therapy at the Sidmouth centre each week.
